This is all about Seal Class:
Seal Class Teacher: Caren Milward
I completed my degree in teaching with PE as a specialism at King Alfred’s College in Winchester, from which I graduated with a BA QTS degree in 1996.
From here I taught in Bromley in Kent, Portsmouth and Southampton- all as a reception teacher.
My interest in special needs developed whilst teaching in Portsmouth, within my class I had a child with a severe hearing loss and I wanted to learn more about Makaton and how to communicate with her.
At this point I wanted to return to my home on the Isle of Wight and a vacancy at Medina House was advertised. I went for it and got the job- that was 14 years ago! The school has changed considerably within that time, providing new challenges all the time- not somewhere to get bored!
I have taught across all the different age groups at Medina House, and hold the responsibility for PE across the school – which is a passion of mine! I am currently the teacher in Seahorse class.
In seahorse class our first topic of ‘houses and homes’ in autumn 2013 will focus on the children’s local areas. We will look at the different types of houses we live in and how homes have changed over time. We will also be building our own shelters out of different materials and using the three little pigs as a starting point for this.
In PSHE we will be focusing on how we can become more independent both within school and at home and what jobs we can do to support this.
