Stingray Class Teacher: Janice Ford

I am the teacher in Stingray class, I assist the Literacy coordinator and I am the newly appointed RE coordinator.

I have been involved with children, young people and adults with learning difficulties since I was a teenager, when I became involved with my local Gateway club. I worked in a residential unit for young people with special needs during my ‘year out’. I graduated from Exeter University with a BSc in Psychology then studied for my PGCE at Exmouth. After graduating, I secured my first teaching post at a school for children with PMLD and complex needs in Southampton, where I worked very happily for 12 years. While there, I studied for a further qualification and gained my PGDipEd in Multi-Sensory Impairment.

After a career break for family and to settle on the Isle of Wight, I returned to the classroom as a Special Needs Assistant in a mainstream primary school, where I worked for nearly two years.

And now here I am – a year into the next chapter. I was delighted to be offered the opportunity to return to the classroom as a teacher at Medina House School – great staff and fabulous children. Always busy, but plenty of fun!
