Seahorse Class Teacher: Justin Henderson
Firstly, it’s an absolute pleasure and honour to be working and learning alongside the children and staff of Medina House School.
I think I was around 11 years old when I realised I wanted to teach or be a professional footballer and with the latter not becoming reality I happily focused on becoming a teacher. But, it was whilst studying PE and Sport at university when I spent a day in a special school that I realised SEN teaching was definitely for me.
Before qualifying I spent one year as a Learning Support Assistant, two years as a Teaching Assistant and one year as a Behavioural Support Assistant. I then completed the Graduate Teaching Programme and as such became a qualified primary school teacher. After a short spell teaching in a primary school my dream of becoming a SEN teacher became reality, spending five years teaching at St. George’s School followed by four years at St. Catherine’s School, where as a middle leader I helped develop and drive forward teaching and learning. Now, as part of the Leadership and Management Team, I am more driven than ever to be part of the Medina House School family bringing my enthusiasm and experience in order to support the children we are so privileged to work alongside. I believe that innovative and engaging learning as well as giving context through life skills, in a happy and safe environment are the key components to each and every student’s individual learning journey.
Outside of school I enjoy an array of things such as playing football and cricket, watching sport, playing the guitar, listening to music, going to gigs, growing my own vegetables, cooking, camping, anything and everything to do with the sea, the environment, wildlife, nature and my continued desire to keep on learning. I hope to bring many of these interests into the classroom and beyond.
