This is all about Seal Class:

Seal Class Teacher: Caren Milward

I completed my degree in teaching with PE as a specialism at King Alfred’s College in Winchester, from which I graduated with a BA QTS degree in 1996.

From here I taught in Bromley in Kent, Portsmouth and Southampton- all as a reception teacher.

My interest in special needs developed whilst teaching in Portsmouth, within my class I had a child with a severe hearing loss and I wanted to learn more about Makaton and how to communicate with her.

At this point I wanted to return to my home on the Isle of Wight and a vacancy at Medina House was advertised. I went for it and got the job- that was 19 years ago! The school has changed considerably within that time, providing new challenges all the time- not somewhere to get bored!

I have taught across all the different age groups at Medina House, and hold the responsibility for Writing and Geography across the school – which is a passion of mine!  I am currently the teacher in Seals class.

In seal class our first topic of ‘Living on an Island’ in autumn 2018. We will focus on the IOW and the dinosaurs that use to roam on the island.

We will design our own Island thinking about what we would have on our island.

In PSHE we will be focusing on how we can become more independent both within school and at home and what jobs we can do to support this. Talking about the Be Safe rules in school.
